Advances in Water Quality Prediction within Lentic and Lotic Waterbodies


Researchers and regulators often rely on models to simulate water quality conditions in water bodies in order to determine relative effects of land-use changes or to prescribe management approaches for water quality improvement. However, water quality variables are the result of complex relationships between climate, hydrology, biogeochemistry, and ecology. Predictive models must take these factors into consideration, while also considering interactions and non-linear relationships between variables. This session aims to highlight advances in water quality prediction technology with respect to lentic and lotic waterbodies. Presentations on new models or tools, development of predictive algorithms, case studies, or new applications of models and tools are desired.

Advances in River Restoration Modeling


River renaturalisation and restoration projects can greatly benefit from computer modeling to develop and assess instream measures or direct modifications to channel form. This session welcomes contributions that present the latest advances in computer modeling of river renaturalisation and restoration efforts, such as natural bank profile design, river remeandering, reconnecting of former river sidearms, or the incorporation of large wood.

Groundwater Investigations at Local to Regional Scales to Support Sustainable Management of Critical Resources 


Groundwater supplies 70% of global freshwater withdrawals and 90% of consumptive water uses. In many regions groundwater is the preferred source of water due to its predictable availability, abundance and quality. This reliance has resulted in substantial declines in groundwater storage around the world. This session invites submissions addressing the exploration, characterization, modeling and sustainable management of regional groundwater resources.

Water Governance and Water Diplomacy


To have strategically sustainable development, we need to enhance water governance in domestic water resources management and expand water diplomacy in shared water resources. Water governance discusses the administrative, economic and sociopolitical system which impacts domestic water resources management. On the other hand, amplified pressure on shared water resources can have extensive impacts in regions with conflicts and internal water mismanagement. It creates a need not only for enhancing water governance but also for water diplomacy. This session welcomes extended abstracts and full-papers that discuss the latest issues, models, finding and assessments in water governance and water diplomacy.
